The Chinese calendar, commonly known as the Farmers’ Calendar, or the Hsia Calendar, is a fascinatingly accurate system, which not only records the passage of time, but is also a tool for fortune-telling. The famous traditional fortune-telling system – The Four Pillars of Destiny – is exactly referring to reading a person’s destiny from his birth data as presented in the Hsia calendar format. And in USA there were wide spread student movements and protests against the war, with the massive demonstration all over USA in May. In October there was the University of Berekey free speech movement involving over 3000 student activists. And also in October, Martin Luther King Jr. got the Nobel Peace Prize for leading non-violent resistance to end racial prejudice in the U.S.


On the same issue of racial prejudice, Nelson Mandela made his speech “I am prepared to die” in the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa and he was sentenced to life imprisonment 12th June, 1964. In August, The International Olympic Committee banned South Africa from the Tokyo Olympics on the grounds that its teams are racially segregated. And in Europe there is war between Greece and Turkey over control of Cyprus…

Many has the misunderstanding that the Dragon is glamorous auspicious animal and will always bring good luck. To the contrary, Dragon and Dog in the 12 animal system is called the “Gate to Heaven and Hell” or the “Net of Heaven and Hell” – this is related to something like the Twilight zone where no Nobleman will present. As there is no nobleman to rescue us from danger, the Dragon and Dog are usually associate with disasters with heavy casualty causing many deaths. So there may be chance of more comets and asteroids falling on earth this year. With the absence of Fire and presence of storage of water, the economic recovery which we experienced in 2023 may slow down before the real fire element returns in 2025 year of Snake. It will not be surprising that a more significant setback in stock market may appear in the autumn and winter season of 2024.

The Dragon is considered a “Star of Arts” which will stimulate entertainment, art, beauty and other academic cultural business. It is also a “Lonely star” leading to isolation and frustration in human relationship. With Yang wood being a stubborn character on top of the Dragon, there will be more discontent and anti-social feeling which may lead to eccentric behavior, mental problem. The other negative aspect of the Dragon is “absence of nobleman” and “self penalty”, all these unpleasant aspects may bring rebellious actions, hatred, and brutal fighting and killings. So it is necessary to pay attention to mental health and good to promote relaxation exercises such as Tai chi, yoga, meditation. The Chinese calendar goes in 60 year cycle, 60 years ago in 1964, it is the same Yang Wood over the Dragon year. In June, there was Cologne school massacre happened in West Germany, the killer used a flamethrower to kill 10 teachers and students and this is perhaps the first school massacre in recent history. In July there was race riots in Singapore between ethnic Chinese and Malays. And in August a Rolling Stone concert in the Netherlands got out of control resulted in a riot. Also on 24/5/64 there is riot after football match in Lima, Peru, 319 were killed and 500 were injured.

Air travel is a business of the fire element. As fire is totally absent in 2024, this may be a factor contributing to air traffic disasters. Back in 1964, there were serious air crashes. On 7/5 a Pacific Air Lines plane crashed in California killed all 44 passengers on board. Northwest Airlines Flight 705 crashed in Florida killing 43 people.
