I.1  Introduction

Do you believe fortune-telling?
According to the statistics, 50% of people believe the existence of fate. Yet 29% of people only believe that man's determination will conquer nature. Today we are going to introduce Zi Wei Dou Shu, an ancient fortune-telling that was spread for thousand years.

So easy, Zi Wei Dou Shu!
Ancient people, when they looked up to the sky, found that only North Star was steady, other stars would rotate around it. So they thought North Star represented the emperor. The astrologist called it as Zi Wei Star. A fortune-telling was coming from the star and developed in ancient China. The meaning of Zi Wei is emperor. Zi Wei Dou Shu mixed astronomy, geography, mathematics, statistics and logic, and then added general senses and long-term experiences. The one who invented such fortune-telling used the the Dipper star groups and Nan Dou star groups, Zi Wei Yuan star and other stars to represent the experiences of human being in the whole life. When the positions of the stars are arranged, studying the mutual sensitivity can obtain a result to know everything.

What is Zi Wei Dou Shu
Zi Wei Dou Shu is a traditional way of fortune-telling. It used 115 stars (such as Emperor Star – Zi Wei, Mercy Star – Tian Ji, and others) with different meanings to explain the variations of human life. Zi Wei means North Star. “Dou” means the Dipper star groups and Nan Dou star groups. The whole name is composed as Zi Wei Dou Shu.

The source of Zi Wei Dou Shu
Zi Wei is coming from the Taoism, starting from Lu Chunyang and recorded in Dao Cang Jing. In the period of the war of resistance against aggression, people in the hometown dwelling of Shao Kang, the idealist philosopher in Song Dynasty. They used the books to study deeply. But they could not copy them but just memorized in their mind. They also left precious data for reference by descendants.

Which one is accurate, Ba Zi and Zi Wei Dou Shu
In general, people always coampare Zi Wei Dou Shu with Ba Zi. The one who learned Ba Zi thought Zi Wei Dou Shu is nonsense. The one who learned Zi Wei Dou Shu thought the guys of Ba Zi do not know the greatest of Zi Wei Dou Shu. In fact, both them just make fortune-telling in certain angle to describe the fates of human being.

Is there any confusion in the results divined by Ba Zi and Zi Wei Dou Shu?
Generally speaking, the results inferred by Ba Zi and Zi Wei Dou Shu should not have any confusion existed. If people obtain different results with these two methods, it is the problem of the diviner’s ability but not the question of Ba Zi and Zi Wei Dou Shu.

I.2 Terminology

Tian Gan: Jia, Yi, Bing, Ding, Wu, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren, Gui
Yang Gan: Jia, Bing, Wu, Geng, Ren
Yin Gan: Yi, Ding, Ji, Xin, Gui
Di Zhi: Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu, Hai
Gan Zhi: A combination of Tian Gan and Di Zhi named “Gan Zhi”, e.g, Jia-Zi, Yi-Chou.

Five Elements: Gold, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth
Yang male, Yang female: The one who was born in year of Yang Gan, if the one is boy, he is yang male; if the one is girl, she is yang female.
Yin male, Yin female: The one who was born in year of Yin Gan, if the one is boy, he is yin male; if the one is girl, she is yin female.

Direct motion:  Count the palace clockwise one by one.
Backing motion: Count the palace counterclockwise one by one.
Life Plate: According to the year, month and date of the birthday, put proper stars on the twelve palaces. When you finished the arrangement, the plate you get is “life plate”.
Palace Wall: Divide the life plate into twelve grids. The grid is called Palace or Palace wall.
Big Luck, Big Limit:  One palace controls the fate for ten year, named Big Limit or Big luck.
Small Limit: One palace controls the fate for one year, named small limit.

Capital Palace: It is the main palace. For example, if you want to discuss career palace, then the career palace would be the capital palace.
Opposite Palace: The opposite palace of capital palace, for example, the career palace is the capital palace, the marriage palace would be the opposite palace.
Trinity Palace: For example, the career palace is capital palace, the life palace and wealth will be trinity palace.
Trinity Palace and Four Positive: Capital Palace, Trinity Palace and Opposite Palace
Adjacent Palace: The adjacent palace of the capital palace, such as career palace, children palace and health palace.

Single appearance: For example, Wen Qu «Dissertation» star appears but Wen Chang »Discours» star does not appear in the trinity and four positive places.
Clip: Two stars locate both side of the capital palace. The capital palace is clipped by these two stars.
Empty Palace: There is no positive star in the palace.
Borrow Star: This palace is empty, so borrow the star in the opposite palace as the capital star.

I.3 Structure of Zi Wei Dou Shu

Basic Structure
The basic structure of Zi Wei Dou Shu is based on the year, month, date, and time of the birth. Put fourteen master stars and others stars (over hundreds of stars) on the twelve palaces wall separately and then determine the five elements, later fix the position of Zi Wei star. Other master stars will be fixed positions following with Zi Wei. The process for this action is called Starting Plate (Qi-Pan) (or Arranging Plate (Pai-Pan)). When the arrangement of the stars is finished, it is called Tian Pan. From the relations among the stars in the plate, divinatory can estimate and calculate the favourable or unfavourable turns in life or good/bad fate in life.

Personnel matters and Fate
Each master star in Dou Shu has its characteristic. For example, Zi Wei is regarded as Emperor. Tian Ji »moteur» is regarded as counselor. Tian Liang »honnête» is regarded as honest and upright official. Po Jun »demolisseur» is regarded as general in war. Using the social structure to match with the stars in the sky and then using the distribution of the stars to estimate the human life is a biggest feature of Dou Shu. Yet the modern society and ancient society are different. So some discussion that based on the ancient events might not match with the events in modern age.

Ming Chu
A character made by nature. It means that the pattern is natural but not acquired. It is a place of natural soul (Hun). If the happiness is in the palace like life, wealth, property, children, marriage, career, happiness and the main star Miao Wang and Chang Sheng Di Wang, then it is good. If in the palace like friends, health, travel, parents, it is common. If it meets a malignant star, then it is bad. The constellation is based on life palace.
If the life palace is in Xi, then the Ming Chu is Tan Lang »aphrodite».

Shen Chu
A character made by acquirement. It means that the pattern of the acquirement that is done through the effort. It is a place of natural vigor (Po). The constellation should be arranged by the Earthly Branches for the year of the birth. If the happiness is in the palace like life, wealth, property, children, marriage, career, happiness and the main star Miao Wang and Chang Sheng Di Wang, then it is good. If in the palace like brothers, friends, health, travel, parents, it is common. If it meets a malignant star, then it is bad. If the Earthly Branches for the year of the birth is in Zi, then the Shen Chu is Mars.

Dou Jun
It is used to figure out the twelve months. Use the number of the month of the birth as the starting point. Calculate it in counterclockwise from the life palace. Then count it clockwise by using the number of the time of the birth. The last palace that reached by calculation is Dou Jun, the first month of that prediction year.

Prediction Year[/b]
It is based on the Earthly Branches. For example, the prediction year of Jia Zi year is located in the palace of Zi.

Prediction Month
There are many ways to discuss and judge the prediction month. If the position of Dou Jun is located in the parent palace of the life plate, then the prediction month for each year should be calculated starting parents palace.

Thirteen Palace
There are Yin and Yang in a palace. The year of the birth in the yang palace means nobility and in the yin palace means richness.

Six Yang Palaces
Life, marriage, wealth, travel, career and happiness

Six Yin Palaces
Brother, children, health, friends, property and parents
Six Internal Palaces
Life, wealth, health, career, property and happiness
Six External Palaces

I.4  What is Zi Wei Dou Shu?

It is one kind of divination named purple rose fortune telling. It is not only easy to learn, but also it is the most accurate divination. For the beginner, read the information in this website is enough. It is not necessary for the beginner to buy another book. Such way of divination is spread from ancient China.

By the way, this is one way of divination by observing the stars of Minister Star (Tian Xiang »général»), Mercy Star (Tian Ji »Moteur»), Sun (Tai Yang »soleil»), Finance Star (Wu Qu »danse»), Lucky Star (Tian Tong »serviteur»), Wicked Star (Lian Chen »furie»), Treasury Star (Tian Fu »palais»), Moon (Tai Yin), Flirting Star (Tan Lang »aphrodite»), Gloomy Star (Ju Men»porte géante»), Minister Star (Tian Xiang »général»), Blessing Star (Tian Liang »honnête»), Power Star (Qi Sha »7épé») and Ruinous Star (Po Jun »demolisseur»).

This divination uses the stars distributing on the twelve palaces of I life, II parent, XII brother, XI marriage, X children, IX wealth, VIII health, VII travel, VI friends, V career, IV property, and III happiness. According to the stars in the palace, the diviner can judge the fate of that one, can know what is good and what is bad.

For example, if your spouse has Sun or Moon in the marriage palace, then you will have successful marriage and can live happily forever.

People in modern age can live in luxurious villas. That means he must have lucky star(s) in his/her property palace. If not, the one might not have good fate to the house. Some millionaire has good house but lives unhappily. As to this point, hypocrite or religionist always likes to say “money is not fortunate”. In fact, such words are nonsense, for the fortune and luck are separate originally.

Anyway, such millionaire has much money by is not happy. The reason must be that there is a bad star in his property palace. In the contrary, if there is a bad star in wealth palace but a lucky star in happiness palace, the one must live happily forever even if he/she is poor. Such complicating human life can be explained and analyzed by this divination.

People in ancient time liked to look up to the astronomical phenomena. They cherished the memory of ancient heroes and connected the stars with the heroes to make imagination as possible as they could.

They thought when some stars neared to the earth, good things always happened. So they thought the stars must be one of the great heroes in ancient time.

Everyone knows the astrology coming from stars. And the stars had great relations to the heroes in legend. The heroes that had relations with the stars in ancient China, almost were the heroes in the end of Yin-Shang and the beginning of Chou dynasty. Therefore, the divination composed by dream and mysterious events will be explained in this divination, Zi Wei Dou Shu.

I.5 Know your fate of affinity?

The fate in affinity is an ancient word. In Japan, it is used to describe human relations, especially for man and woman. This word can be used to include everything. If the relation between a man and a woman is god, it is called “having the fate of affinity”, if not, it is called “without the fate of affinity”.

As mentioned in previous sections, this divination uses the most important palace in twelve palaces, Life Palace. This palace can show the characters, talents, and ability of people. So if we can compare man and woman with the life palace, we can understand the affinity for the couple of man and woman.

The Life Palace is estimated from one’s birthday and time, and the stars are arranged from the birthday.  Put the stars in the twelve palace compose the whole result. With such way to view the affinity, it is precise than any other methods.

If people use nine stars of the year (birth) to decide the first great thing in human life, it is a really boring thing. Yet if they can use life palace to deduce, then they must not feel sorry to their decisions.

The way to deduce the fate in affinity of man and woman is to put the stars in man’s life palace and the stars in woman’s life palace together and judge the result.

The wording used for the fate in affinity

Here, let’s talk about the wording used in the fate of affinity.

In general, we call the woman with Zi Wei star in the life palace as the woman of Zi Wei star. Similarly, the man of Tian Ji »moteur» or the woman of Tan Lang »aphrodite» means the life palace of the man appears Tian Ji »moteur» or the life palace of the woman appears Tan Lang »aphrodite».



I.6 Fate of affinity for woman

※The fate of affinity for the woman of Emperor Star (Zi Wei)
Such woman hates the man of Flirting Star (Tan Lang »aphrodite»). If the woman is acquainted with such man, she must be cheated, played and abandoned finally by the man.
The second one that such woman hates is the man of Ruinous Star (Po Jun »demolisseur»). Most of them will be treated in violence and cannot stand.  
If such woman can join a man with Minister Star (Tian Siang »general»), though she can experience happiness, yet she cannot develop her ability. The woman does not have good fate of affinity to the man of Gloomy Star (Ju Men »porte géante») and Wicked Star (Lian Chen »furie»). As to others, the fate is not bad.

Such woman does not have too good or too bad fate of affinity. They just have strong fate of affinity to fall in love with the man of Moon Star (Tai Yin) and Blessing Star (Tian Liang »honnête»). Such woman does not have the charm to attract man. Therefore in the fate of affinity, the good or bad is not obvious.
To do the comparison of the stars, such woman has bad fate of affinity if she marries with the man of Wicked Star (Lian Chen »furie»), Moon Star (Tai Yin), Flirting Star (Tan Lang »aphrodite»), Power Star (Qi Sha »7épé») and Ruinous Star (Po Jun »demolisseur»). ※The fate of affinity for the woman of Moon (Tai Yin)
Such woman has the temper of feminine. It is easy for her to fall in love with the man of Mercy Star (Tian Ji »Moteur»). It is because the character of Moon-sweet dream and the spirit of the man can be attracted for each other. And such woman is easy to fall in love with Sun (Tai Yang »soleil»). Such marriage can be regarded as the representative of good fate.

※The fate of affinity for the woman of Flirting Star (Tan Lang »aphrodite»)
Such woman has the worse relation with the man of Emperor Star (Zi Wei) and the Wicked Star (Lian Chen »furie»). She cannot understand the mood of Emperor Star (Zi Wei). If she can marry with the man of Finance Star (Wu Qu »danse»), the fate is common. If she can avoid to marry with the man of Gloomy Star (Ju Men »porte géante» ), Power Star (Qi Sha »7épé») and the Ruinous Star (Po Jun »demolisseur»), then she is smart girl.

Such woman has the character of hard to please, so the range for the fate of affinity is limited. It is very strange, such woman always attract the man of Mercy Star (Tian Ji), Sun (Tai Yang »soleil»), Lucky Star (Tian Tong »serviteur»). Yet the result is not sure to be good.

Such woman has bad temper and is not healthy. In general, the fate of affinity with the man of Emperor Star (Zi Wei), Finance Star (Wu Qu»danse») and Wicked Star (Lian Chen»furie») will be better than others.

※The fate of affinity for the woman of Ruinous Star (Po Jun »demolisseur»)

Such man is romantic and lack of the action that men have. So, there is no good fate of affinity for him. Yet if he can prevent the woman of Sun (Tai Yang »soleil»), Finance Star (Wu Qu »danse») and Wicked Star (Lian Chen »furie»), it will be better for him.

As to such man, the best one suitable for him must be the woman of Finance Star (Wu Qu »danse») and woman of Treasury Star (Tian Fu »palais») is the second. The worse is the woman of Emperor Star (Zi Wei) and Wicked Star (Lian Chen »furie»).

※ The fate of affinity for the man of Gloomy Star (Ju Men»porte géante»)
There is no good fate of affinity for such woman. That is because he is hard to please and is too capricious.    

※ The fate of affinity for the man of Minister Star (Tian Xiang »général»)
As to such man, the best fate of affinity is the woman of Finance Star (Wu Qu »danse») and the worse is the woman of Wicked Star (Lian Chen »furie»). As to other stars, there is nothing to be worried about.

※ The fate of affinity for the man of Blessing Star (Tian Liang »honnête»)
There is no good or bad fate of affinity for such man for the man has the character of free and ease. Yet in general, there is nothing to be worried about for the stars.

※ The fate of affinity for the man of Power Star (Qi Sha »7épé»)
Seldom woman has good fate affinity fro the man of Power Star (Qi Sha »7épé»). Only Wicked Star (Lian Chen »furie») is minded open, so they can have good fate of affinity.

II. The Twelve Palaces

The Zi Wei Dou Shu divides human life into twelve palaces which contains Life Palace, Brother Palace, Marriage Palace, Children Palace, Wealth Palace, Health Palace, Travel Palace, Friends Palace, Career Palace, Property Palace, Happiness Palace and Parents Palace. Below are the definitions for the twelve palaces.

Life Palace
This is the most important palace. It is the innate luck for the questioner. When we study and discuss the chart, the life palace is the basis and others are auxiliary. With travel palace, career palace, wealth palace and happiness palace, people can understand the fate throughout his/her life.

XII Brother Palace        
It can help people to understand the brothers and sisters of the questioner, the relation between brothers and the questioner.

XI Marriage Palace

X Children Palace

Whether you can inherit the property from ancestor or how about the residence or the offices can be analyzed from the stars in this palace.

III Happiness Palace  
Someone works hard for all the life. Someone can enjoy affluent life. All of these relate to the stars in this palace.

II Parents Palace  
The life style in childhood and various conditions of the parents can be understood from the parents palace by matching with life palace and happiness palace.

Life palace is in the most important position in the twelve palaces. That is to say, the life palace is to observe the character, appearance, talent of the person.

If the Emperor Star (Zi Wei) star is in this palace, the one must have the calm and unhurried figure. If it is a female, it must be a beauty with noble proclivity and calm character. If it is a male, it must be a man with talent. Due to the great talent, the one can obtain rich life.

If Mercy Star (Tain Ji) is in this palace, the one will be wise and clever. The female has classic beauty and the male has nervousness. The one (male/female) has bad temper and is anxious to finish everything. Yet, for he/she has superior wisdom, he/she can still have great development if he/she can work by using the brain actively.

If Sun (Tai Yang »soleil») is in this palace, the one will have majestic-looking figure. The female gives people the impression of surpassing man. Such person can be successful in official career and has smooth future.

If Finance Star (Wu Qu »danse») is in this palace, the one has short figure but good health. They can speak sonorously and powerfully. Though they are irritable, yet they have resolute power to decide everything. Though such person cannot stand in the field of art or academic circles, yet they can succeed in business.

If Lucky Star (Tian Tong »serviteur») is in this palace, the one will have tender appearance. As the woman, she must have plump body. The one (no matter male or female) has good temper and character, and can keep good relations to other people. But, he/she is not supereminent and easy to damage things.

If Wicked Star (Lian Chen »furie») is in this palace, most of the ones are unkempt. They are arrogant seemly but people think that’s their charming. They don’t have much more friends. Yet their friends can help him and make him succeeding.

If Treasury Star (Tian Fu »palais») is in this palace, the one has peaceful appearance. He/she can process the emotion and rationality with harmonization. He/she does not have extreme attitude in everything. The one has sharp brain to learn everything proficiently and has the ability to handle and use with skill.

If Moon (Tai Ying »lune») is in this palace, the one is one kind of person with tender temper. As to female, usually she will be a beauty and has strong mysophobia.

If Flirting Star (Tan Lang »aphrodite») is in this palace, the one has strong personality. He/she stirs up trouble for the opposite sex easily. The one can make reasonable conclusion for things and make a move quickly.

If Gloomy Star (Ju Men »porte géante» ) is in this palace, the one has sharp eyesight and speaks orderly. He/she has strong heart in research. Any tiny/small things can be done completely and detailed. Yet, the one concerns about everything easily.

If Minister Star (Tian Xiang »général») is in this palace, the one must be a person with steady character and good personality. He/she smart and like cleaning. And he/she has the ability of leadership.

If Blessing Star (Tian Liang »honnête») is in this palace, the one is steady. As to female, she is good at caring others and enjoys the happiness due to aid to other people. In general, the one will have long life and has good health.

If Power Star (Chi Sha »7épé») is in this palace, the one has irritable character and is a stubborn person. They are silent and reticent. The woman has the shortcoming of self-willed. In general, the one is not healthy and the life is short than others.

If Ruinous Star (Po Jun »demolisseur») is in this palace, most of the people will have ambiversion in empty darkness and natural brightness. They have speculative mentality and like to gamble for many things. Their fates are extreme.

Above are the descriptions for the fourteen stars in this palace. If the score of the star in this palace is in plus sign, then the one must have good life. If the score of the star in this palace is in minus sign, then the one must have bad condition natively.

II.3 Marriage Palace

It is used to observe the type of match for the questioner and observe relations of a couple.

If Lucky Star (Tian Tong »serviteur») is in this palace, the male can marry with a smart wife to supplement his shortage. The female can marry with a tender husband. They have perfect relations.

If Wicked Star (Lian Chen »furie») is in this palace, the one (no matter male or female) will have the misery of separation with his/her spouse. And the one will be easy to be maltreated by the other side. It shows that the star brings the one misery.  

If Treasury Star (Tian Fu »palais») is in this palace, the one can marry with clever spouse. Meanwhile, they live peacefully and happily.

If Moon (Tai Ying »lune») is in this palace, the male will marry with a pretty woman. The female will marry a male with excessive mysophobia. The good or bad depends on the score of the star.

II.4 Children Palace

It is used to observe the sexual life, reproduction and the relation to the children of the questioner.

If the Treasure Star (Tian Fu »palais»), Moon (Tai Yin), Gloomy Star (Ju Men »porte géante»), Flirting Star (Tan Lang »aphrodite»), Minister Star (Tian Xiang »général») and Blessing Star (Tian Liang »honnête»), Power Star (Chi Sha »7épé») and Ruinous Star (Po Jun»demolisseur») are inside this palace, the first child usually will be a girl.

It the star of boy and the star of girl appear at the same time, the first child usually will be a body.

II.5 Wealth Palace

Wealth means money. This palace is used to observe the level of money earned for a person, the fate in job and money saved or not.            

If the Emperor Star (Zi Wei) star is in this palace, the money will come automatically. Even if the score in this palace is in minor sign, it is just to indicate that the wealth is common. The one might not be poor or could not live.

If Mercy Star (Tain Ji) is in this palace, the fate of wealth is not perfect. When the score in this palace is in plus sign, the one still needs to work hard to earn little money. If the score is in minor sign, then the money will no come to the one.

If Sun (Tai Yang »soleil») is in this palace, it is easy for the one to earn money. And the money will come to him automatically. Yet whether the money can be saved depends on the score in this palace.

If Finance Star (Wu Qu »danse») is in this palace, the money will come steadily and can be saved. Yet when the score in this palace is in minus sign, then the money can be obtained less.

If Lucky Star (Tian Tong »serviteur») is in this palace, the money will be accumulated for a long time. Yet if the score is not perfect, then the money must be very few.

If Wicked Star (Lian Chen »furie») is in this palace, then the good or bad for the one will be changed greatly. The result depends on the scores. If Blessing Star (Tian Liang »honnête») is in this palace, the one can earn large of fortune. Even if the score is in minus sign, the one still can have good life late in life.

If Power Star (Chi Sha »7épé») is in this palace, only the score is in plus sign that he/she can earn the money. But the one must spend lot of spirit or mind to obtain the benefit in money.  

If Ruinous Star (Po Jun »demolisseur») is in this palace, only the score is in plus sign that he/she can earn the money quickly. In the contrary, if the score is in minus sign, the one might lose the money in a short time.

II.6 Health Palace

It is used to observe the health or body condition of the questioner.

The relation between this palace and the fourteen stars can be divided into three groups.

(2)     When the score is in plus sign, then it is good; yet when the score is in minus sign, then it is not good -

If the Mercy Star (Tian Ji »Moteur») and Finance Star (Wu Qu »danse») are inside this palace, the one will not get the help from subordinates or servants and will not get troubles due to the subordinates or servants.

If the Wicked Star (Lian Chen »furie»), Flirting Star (Tan Lang »aphrodite»), Gloomy Star (Ju Men »porte géante»), and Ruinous Star (Po Jun »demolisseur») are inside this palace, the one will be troubled by the subordinates or servants.

If the Power Star (Chi Sha »7épé») is inside this palace, the one will be harmed in lethality by subordinates or younger generations. In general, we can see some examples of businessman or managers. Their companies are occupied by other people. Mostly, you can find the Power Star located in their Friends Palace.


II.9 Career Palace

It is used to understand the portion of career and to observe relations between the one with elders. For the question of jobs or being competent for a job or not, we can use this palace to have an overview.

To this palace, the good stars include Emperor Star, Sun and Wicked Star. When these stars access into this palace with a plus sign, the one with such result is suitable for the life of salary and can become outstanding.

In the contrary, if these stars access into this palace with a minus sign, then he/she is not suitable for the life of salary.

If Power Star (Chi Sha »7épé») is in this palace with the score in plus sign, the one will get large of immovable property. In the contrary, if the score is in minus sign, the immovable property will be sold completely.

If Ruinous Star (Po Jun »demolisseur») is in this palace, the one will have immovable property. Yet, if the score is in the minus sign, then there will nothing.


II.11 Happiness Palace

It is used to observe the length of live and life fun.

As to the relation between Happiness palace and fourteen stars, no matter good stars or bad stars, when the score of the star is a plus sign, then the one must live to sixty years old. If Lucky Star and Blessing Star locate at this palace, then the one can live to sixty years old even if the score of the star is a minus sign.

The stars with more life fun include Emperor Star (Zi Wei), Sun (Tai Yang »soleil»), Lucky Star (Tian Tong »serviteur»), Treasure Star (Tian Fu »palais»), Moon (Tai Yin), Minister Star (Tian Xiang »général») and Blessing Star (Tian Liang »honnête»).
