IV Stories of stars

IV.1 A tyrant of yearning for a pretty goddess

This story happened about four thousands years ago. According to the legend, the last emperor in Yin Dynasty, Chou-Wang was a fatuous and self-indulgent ruler.

One day, on the way of returning home after finished the hunting, Chou-Wang got into a temple due to a sudden rain. When he saw the wooden idol of Jiu-Tian-Suan-Nv, this libidinous and ferocious king was shocked with the beauty and lost his reason. He got an idea against the natural law.

“Bring her back to be my concubine”. Chou-Wang gave an order to his guards.

Originally, the order of Chou-Wang must be obeyed. Though the idol was a female, yet she was a deity. Chou-Wang could not use his arbitrary way to do such things. So, after persuaded by the guards, he returned palace with anger.

Though the figure of Jiu-Tian-Suan-Nv could not be seen by common people, yet she stayed with the idol from beginning to end. After listening the tyrant’s saying, even if she was a goddess of kindness, yet she could not stand such flippant words. So she swore to heaven to eliminate the dynasty that Chou-Wang ruled. She called a fox spirit and ordered her:
“I ordered you changing into a beautiful woman to flatter Chou-Wang and destroy his throne”.

So, the fox spirit changed and became the most famous concubine in the history, Da-Ji. She did her best to lure Chou-Wang and led the nation to die.

At that time, the deities in the heaven were less. The great emperor in the heaven was troublesome for such matter. After heard of the dispute between Jiu-Tian-Suan-Nv and Chou-Wang, he was pleasantly surprised. He thought if the world is chaos, then there must be many heroes and loyal courtiers died due to the disaster.

So, the emperor in the heaven commanded Venus to guard the Nan-Tian door which was the line of demarcation between the earth and the heaven. If one hero or loyal courtier died, he should arrange for him/her as a deity and place him/her on the star in the sky.

At that time, in the west of Yin, there was a Chou county. The agriculture of Chou county was prosperous. It was a place of culture with high level. Therefore it threatened Yin-Shang at any time. To eliminate the county, Chou-Wang invited Chou-Wen-Wang to the capital with an excuse of discussing political affairs.

According to the legend, the Chou-Wan-Wang was a great astrologist. He knew everything in the world.

The reason that Chou county based on the agriculture and had great power in national power should attribute the success to Wen-Wang. Hence, the existence of Wen-Wang was the bad thing to Chou-Wang. Chou-Wang thought if Wen-Wang was killed, the Chou county will be collapsed by itself.

When Wen-Wang came to the palace, Chou-Wang sent him to prison immediately. That was to say, the life of Wen-Wang would be vanished due to one word of Chou-Wang.

Though Chou-Wang imprisoned Wen-Wang, yet he was also afraid of complaint from vassals. He spread rumors that Wen-Wang violated the law of rebellion.

Wen-Wang had many sons in his country. In which, the eldest son Bo-Yi was the most outstanding. It was said, Bo-Yi was a handsome man that could not be seen in one hundred years. Even if a woman with ruthlessness would become his captive and could not forget if she saw Bo-Yi. Bo-Yi was not only a gentleman, but also he was a wit and played koto very well. Besides, he was a dutiful son. So, when he heard about his father was jailed, he could not keep silence. Yet the pure and simple-minded Bo-Yi just thought his father was misunderstood and sent to the jail. He did not know all of these were the conspiracy of Chou-Wang. Therefore he moved on the capital to explain the innocence of his father. After one month of trip, he went to court to meet Chou-Wang. He declared that his father was innocent with effort and asked Chou-Wang released his father.

Though Chou-Wang falsely incriminated Wen-Wang, yet he could not get any evidence. So he felt quite helpless and promised to discuss after few days. At that night, he let Bo-Yi slept in the palace.

IV.2 Da-Ji and meatball

In the still of the night, B-Yi played the koto to abolish tedium in his room because he could not rescue his father –Wen-Wang. The sound was like a murmuring stream and the tune was plaintive like the crying of cuckoo and drifts every corner of the palace.

Da-Ji, slept in deep palace, was awakened by the sound of the koto. She listened and was lost in abstraction. Finally, she could not bear the temptation of the sound. So she put on a thin silk fabric partly hidden and partly visible and came to the front door of Bo-Yi’s room.

She looked from the crack between a door and its frame stealthily. And extremely, a cultured egghead was sitting there and played the koto with all attention. Though Da-Ji held an important mission from Jiu-Tian-Suan-Nv, yet she originally was a seductive woman. The native lasciviousness made her not control her desire. At last, she could not help to enter into the room of Bo-Yi.

Bo-Yi deserved to be called the descendant of a notable family. Not only he did not show interest in Da-Ji, but also he denounced her as a shameless person.

The disturbance in the midnight startled the guards in palace. They ignored the real reason and arrested Bo-Yi. The tyrant Chou-Wang heard of such disturbance and gave order to investigate the whole event. Yet Da-Ji could not tell others the fact was that she wore thin clothes and went to the house of man just for peeping, and due to the handsome face of the man, she could not help to enter into his house. So, she steeled her heart and shirked the responsibility onto Bo-Yi completely.

Da-Ji fabricated the fact and said she followed up the sound of music. When she ran to outside of the house, she was pulled into the room by Bo-Yi and philandered by him.

Chou-wang was angry with such story. He killed Bo-Yi before the daybreak and he hashed the body of Bo-Yi into meat. He made meatball with the body of Bo-Yi and sent the meatball to Bo-Yi’s father, Wen-Wang.

Wen-Wang had known such matter though he was in jail, for he was the man who could foretell the good or bad in the future. He knew the big event that was going to happen on him in the future.

In the next day, when the meatball sent to the jail, Wen-Wang pretended not knowing anything and eat the meatball with appetite and relish.

Chou-Wang heard that Wen-Wang ate the meatball. He thought and judged that Wne-Wang was not an amazing person like people praised. So he released Wen-Wang.

After released by Chou-Wang, in the way of returning home, Wen-Wang lamented and resented for loosing his son. Besides, he ate his son. So he grieved to the extent of wishing to die.

Before he returned home just for five to six days, he crossed a wide field and found a place with many grasses. For he was a famous person in foretelling, he owned great magic power more or less. He thought he could use his ability to bring back his son to life.

Wen-Wang entered into the grass and opened his mouth. He wanted to spew the meatball. Yet the thing out from his mouth was not meatball but a cute white animal. This tiny animal had snow-white hair with long ears and red round eyes. It happily jumped from here to there. This was the first rabbit spread in China.

That is to say, the first son of Wen-Wang, Bo-Yi was changed into a rabbit. The rabbit kowtowed to Wen-Wang and soon disappeared in the thick growth of grass.

IV.3 Emperor Star (Zi Wei)

The son of Wen-Wang, Bo-Yi became a rabbit and disappeared in the grass. Yet his soul was brought by Venus to the heaven and lived in the world of stars.

Bo-Yi became the first victim that Jiu-Tian-Suan-Nv swore to destroy Yin-Shang Dynasty. He was bestowed to handle nobleness and lived in a star full of purple roses.

This star was named “The star of Zi-Wei” for the purple roses bloomed everywhere. Chinese put this star in the front of all the stars in horoscopy, named Zi-Wei Dou Shu. That is, using the meaning of “Do”, measurement and the meaning of “Shu”, destiny to measure the destiny of human beings that based on the divination of Zi-Wei star.

The star that Bo-Yi lived was called “The star of Zi-Wei”. In the divination, it has the meaning of esteemed greatness and stands for kindness and nobleness.

Wen-Wang, after coming back to his fief, swore to the sky to revenge his son, Bo-yi. He did many good things and remembered this lesson to build his strong country. It’s a pity that he died before he reached his goal. Hence, the responsibility was taken by his second son – Wu-Wang, the brother of Bo-Yi. And finally, Yin-Shang Dynasty was exterminated by Wu-Wang.

Wu-Wang inherited the unfulfilled wish of Wen-Wang. He trained his military everyday and engaged in farming. So, his country became stronger day by day. Later, he got the help from his military counselor, named Jiang-Shang.

As a result, Yin-Shang Dynasty became extinct. King of Wu succeeded to the throne. The world got into Chou Dynasty. The reason that Wu-Wang could conquer Chou-Wang was that he got the assistance of Jiang-Shang, the military counselor.

IV.4 Mercy Star (Tian Ji »Moteur»)

Jiang-Shang also named Jiang Zi-Ya. He had learned skills from Yuan Shi Tain Zun in Kun-Lun mountain. And he possessed super wisdom.

Before the luck coming, no matter you are hero or adviser, it is all useless. Even Jian-Shang could not be exceptional. Before he was getting old, he lived unhappily and needily. Besides, a fate or luck of one person always was controlled by the wife or husband. Because he married with Ma Chian-Jin, he was frustrated still. Yet, after he divorced with that woman, he started to have good luck. One day, he angled for fish leisurely in the side of lake. He was found by Wen-Wang. Wen-Wang appreciated his talent, so took him to Chou and asked him to be a military counselor. Later, Chiang-Shang did his best to assist Wen-Wang. After Wen-Wang died, he assisted Wu-Wang continuously to consolidate the power of Chou.

Wu-Wang conquered Chou-Wang and settled the basis of Chou Dynasty. Chiang-Shang became the vassal of Chi and died for many years later. After he died, his soul was taken by Venus to the world of stars. He was placed in Mercy Star. So in the divination of Zi-Wei Dou Shu, this start controlled the wisdom. The word “Ji” means cleverness and quick-witted mind.

IV.5 Sun (Tai Yang »soleil»)

Though Chou-Wang was a tyrant, yet there were many loyal officials around him. In which, there was one man on the scroll of fame called Bi-Gan. When Chou-Wang denoted his life on Da-Ji and did not process/manage the internal affairs, Bi-Gan always criticized his faults frankly. Yet Bi-Gan’s sincere advice did not have any effect to the perverse Chou-Wang. Chou-Wang did not listen to his advice. In the contrary, he doubted Bi-Gan as a treacherous court official. Bi-Gan said “if Your Majesty cannot trust me, I can take my heart to let you check”.

After finished the words, Bi-Gan cut off his chest and took the bloody heart in the front of Chou-Wang. Though Bi-Gan was a loyal courtier, yet he still died for his heart taking away. Venus was moved by his virtue and patriotism, so he placed his soul on the star of Sun and let him handle the lightness in the universe.

Bo-Yi, Chiang-Shang, Bi-Gan and several people were bestowed as deities. As to their masters, Wen-Wang and Wu-Wang, what happened to them?

IV.6 Finance Star (Wu Qu »danse»)

After Wu-Wang ascended the throne, he did good deed and policy to his people. Venus appreciated his valiant spirit and the contribution to Chou Dynasty, he bestowed Wu-Wang a deity of controlling wealth and placed him in the Finance Star (Wu Qu»danse»). Therefore this star, except controls the wealth, handles the valiancy at the same time.
Though Wu-Wang unified the nation and the lands, yet it was not done by his power only. The reason that Chou Dynasty was strong enough was the effort of Wen-Wang actually. When Wu-Wang conquered the world, those army advisers, generals, and loyal courtiers mostly were old courtiers of Wen-Wang. It is thus evident that Wen-Wang was respected and supported by his people.

IV.7 Lucky Star (Tian Tong »serviteur»)

When Wen-Wang did not finish his wish and died with hatred, Venus bestowed him as the deity of softness and placed him on the Lucky Star (Tian Tong »serviteur»). So, this star also handles “softness and gentleness”.

Though Chou-Wang, exterminated by Wu-Wang, was a tyrant, the Yin Dynasty might not become extinct if there were many loyal courtiers around him. That is to say, there are many treacherous court officials in the dynasty. First of all, the number one treacherous court official was Fei-Chong. Fei-Chong was a character who concentrated to fawn on the king and scrambled for power and profit in the imperial court. In addition, he caused infinite harm to many people.

IV.8 Wicked Star (Lian Zhen)

After Shang Dynasty became extinct, Fei-Chong was beheaded by Jiang-Shang. As we mentioned before, this moment is the period that heaven lack large of deities. So, Venus put this traitor to the position of Lian-Zhen star and bestow the name of “the god of evil” upon him, similar to “Satan” in Christianity. Therefore, this star handles and controls all the distortion and bad things in the world.

IV.9 Treasury Star (Tian Fu »palais»)

Except the concubine – Da Ji, Chou-Wang had a formal wife. That is the virtuous and intelligent empress Jiang. She was a woman with ability and talent. And she had join forces with Chou-Wang to govern the nation very well. Yet, since Dai-Ji entered into the palace, she lost her authority gradually. Later, she was jealous by Da-Ji and killed for a just cause.

After the empress died, Venus bestowed her on the deity of talent and placed her on Treasury Star (Tian Fu»palais») to control ability and plenty of products. Besides, she was a woman with kindness. Therefore, the star also was a star of commiseration.

In the loyal courtiers of Chou-Wang, there was a famous general named Hwang Fei-Hu. His wife was a pretty woman that not inferior to Da-Ji. To Da-Ji who praises herself as the first beautiful woman in the world, the existence of Hwang’s wife was one thing that she could not stand. So, the madam of Hwang became the victim of tyrant Chou-Wang later.

IV.10 Moon (Tai Yin)

In every New Year’s Day of Yin-Dynasty, all the officials would bring along their families to pay Chou-Wang a courtesy call. One year, the general Hwang Fei-Hu followed the custom and paid a courtesy call to Chou-Wang with his wife. After finished, Da-Ji said she wanted to gossip with Hwang’s wife and left madam in the palace. She asked Hwang went home alone first. Then she cheated the madam to Chai-Sing Floor and let Chou-Wang meet her singly. The libidinous Chou-Wang wanted to encroach on her for a long time. After drinking wine, Chou-Wang approached her nearly. Hwang’s wife was not only a pretty woman, but also a woman with chastity. She found no way to escape so she jumped from the Chai-Sing Floor. Her soul got to the heaven and she was agitated and not knowing what to do. Venus found her and praised her virtue. He bestowed her with the deity of clean immediately.

Yet, this madam was not only a good woman, meanwhile she liked clearness very much. She was unwilling to dwell in any star. Venus exhausted all mental efforts and finally he put her on the Moon palace.

She became the deity of moon and handled clearness. And the house in the moon palace was suitable to dwell, so she also controlled the residence.

IV.11 Flirting Star (Tan Lang »aphrodite»)

In the series of Zi-Wei stories, there are many characters becoming the stars in the heaven. Yet, is this section, let’s see the concubine of Chou-Wang, Da-Ji. She originally was a fox under Jiu-Tian-Suan-Nv. After accepted the mission of Jiu-Tian-Suan-Nv, she entered into the body of the daughter of Su-Hu. With the body, Da-Ji was a rare beauty in the eyes of Chou-Wang. So she was called to the palace. From that time, she used her good looks to fawn on Chou-Wang day and night. So that Bo-Yi and the wife of Hwang Fei-Hu were killed for her. At first, Jiu-Tian-Suan-Nv was a peaceful deity. She was just angry with the rude behavior of Chou-Wang. Therefore she asked the fox to make troubles for his court. Yet, Da-Ji did many additional sins through such chance.

After Yin Dynasty collapsed, Da-Ji was punished by Jiang-Shang with extreme penalty. For Da-Ji was a fox spirit and her natural instincts was despicable, basically she was unworthy of being a deity. Yet, the supply of deities in heaven was unable to meet the demand, so Venus had no choice but bestowed her as a deity. But, in order to prevent her doing harms to human beings, Venus placed her in Flirting Star (Tan Lang»aphrodite»). Actually, the house in the star was surrounded by many terrible wolves. They bite everyone when they saw one. Therefore the deity lived in this star could not go outside. Venus thought such place was suitable for her to live, so he did such arrangement.

In the world, some women will destroy the fate or interfere with the fate of their husbands. Such women did not admit their weak-minded but just liked to poke one's nose into other people's business.

The wife of Jiang-Shang was such kind of woman. After married with her, Jiang-Shang fell into the abyss of poverty.

IV.12 Gloomy Star (Ju Men »porte géante»)

Ma Chian-Jin was a shrew. After she married Jiang-Shang, she often complained everything and shouted with abuse to her husband. However, she was unwilling to do anything for him. And they lived in such ways till she was sixty-eight years old. She did not know review herself but asked to divorce with the reason of unable to stand such life.

After divorced, Jiang-Shang met Wen-Wang not for a long time and became his military counselor. Ma Chian-Jin knew such news and regretted having done the past things. Later, she suicided by hanging.

If you carefully observe the people in your side, it is not hard to find out the one similar to Ma Chian-Jin. Such kind of women will use unkindness way to treat their husband or husband’s jobs. They think they are experts and like to interfere. By the way, after the Ma Chian-Jin suicided, her soul was taken by Venus to the heaven. She became PoPo god that controlled sowing discord and liked to poke people’s nose into other people's business.

Because Ma Chian-Jin has the habit of knocking doorpost if she encountered undesirable things, so Venus placed her in the star of Glommy (Ju Men »porte géante»). This star has a big gate like a decorated archway. And the house is built with the meaning of opening mouth to complain.

IV.13 Minister Star (Tian Xiang »général»)

In the loyal courtiers of Chou-Wang, there was one man who is memorable. That is Wen grand teacher. The position of Wen was similar to prime minister in modern age. Meanwhile he was the generalissimo of the army.

After the war of Yi and Chou, the military of Yi suffered a crushing defeat. Wen great teacher also died in the battleground. Venus took his soul to the heaven and placed him in the Minister Star (Tian Xiang).

IV.14 Blessing Star (Tian Liang »honnête»)

The people we mentioned above became deities after died. Here there is one man who becomes deity before he died. That is Li Tian-Wang, the marshal of Chou army. Though he is a veteran in battle, yet he does not die in battle.

This is a period that Venus has to look for sufficient deities in the heaven. Therefore, Li Tian-Wang is taken by Venus to heaven and is placed in the star of Blessing (Tian Liang»honnête»).

IV.15 Power Star (Chi Sha »7épé»)

Let’s talk about the one who married the beautiful woman – Madam Jia, Hwang Fei-Hu.

When Hwang knew his wife died for she was dangerous to be humiliated by Chou-Wang and then jumped from Chai-Sing Floor, he lamented and resented very much. At last, he revolted and offer his services to Chou army.

He led the army of Chou to fight with the army of Yin and repeatedly performed outstanding service. Yet, he was dead in the Min-Chi county. Venus took his soul to the heaven and placed him in Power Star (Chi Sha »7épé») to let him becoming the deity of war.

IV.16 Ruinous Star (Po Jun»demolisseur»)

Now, let’s talk about the main character – Chou-Wang.

The tyrant was assisted by Wen grand teacher, Bi-Gan and other loyal courtiers at the first time. So, even if he doted on Da-Ji and killed many officials loyal to his sovereign, he still barely enough to hold his dynasty. Yet, after the battle with Chou, the situation was getting worse and worse. Finally, he was defeated in the last battle. The fatuous and self-indulgent ruler could just run to the Chai-Sing Floor and set fire to suicide.

After he died, his soul was taken by Venus and placed in Ruinous Star (Po Jun »demolisseur»). And he was bestowed to handle the breakage in everything.

The front stories are the background of the fourteen stars. They are placed in different stars due to their good things and bad behaviors. Each star handles the same job as done during his/her lifetime.
